Dr. Sonia Tascon
Dr Sonia Tascon is an Australian social work scholar whose career bridges child protection, human rights, and critical decolonial praxis. After beginning her social work career in 1986, she completed a PhD in social work and later a PhD in film studies, driven by her passion for using film as a tool for activism and social change. Her lived experience informs her long-standing analysis of race, power and colonial knowledge structures. She founded Perth’s first Human Rights Film Festival and continues to challenge Eurocentric frameworks in social work education, practice, and policymaking.
